Mary & Charnos: Armery

October 18th, 2011

If you caught Mary Portas: Queen of Frocks on Channel 4 last night, you’ll have seen a glimpse of the revolutionary new product which has been launched with Charnos, Armery.

Mary Portas, with her impeccably chic style and instantly-recognisable red bob, collaborated with the team here at Charnos to create this innovative new garment which is set to banish the ‘shrug’ forever. Part armour, part hosiery this one-piece is a fashion fix for stylish women who would like to disguise their arms.

In fact a recent survey found that 75% of women hated their wobbly arms more than any other part of their body, and 80% were so self-conscious about them that they had resorted to deliberately covering up with cardigans and shawls – items not really renowned for their style credentials. It’s hardly surprising that nine out of ten women surveyed commented that they would like fashion designers to come up with a new option for disguising their arms. Thankfully Mary & Charnos have answered the call from women everywhere.

Sleeveless tops and dresses that were once out-of-bounds, will have new life is breathed into them when worn with Armery, which hugs your arms and sculpts them – preventing the dreaded upper-arm wobble – the scourge of grown up fashionable women!

Armery is currently available in two designs – Plain and Luxury Lace. The 140 denier Plain design (RRP £18) is produced using a 3D construction technique, and is available in the following shades: Night Noir, Mega Magenta, and Intense Indigo. The Luxury Lace Armery is made using a special warp knitted lace, with an added bonus – you can cut the sleeves to your desired length and the lace won’t fray! Luxury Lace is available in Night Noir and Charcoal, RRP £22.

Just a couple of months ago, when Armery first hit the shops it sold out on the first day, proving there really is a demand for such a fashion solution! Don’t worry though – the stocks have been replenished…get yours here http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Shop+for+Armery/MaryPortasArmery,default,pg.html

Historically stylish

October 6th, 2011

You’ve already seen the gorgeous 75th Special Edition Anniversary collection from Charnos – but how much do you know about the history behind the stylish brand?

Here are some interesting facts…

·         Stockings were first worn in the 12th century by both men and women – think Robin Hood and Henry VIII!

·         Charles Henry Noskwith founded Charnos Hosiery in 1936.

·         In the late 30s Charnos’ fully fashioned stockings with their hallmark seam down the back were leading the way - the sheerest on the market and made of the highest quality material in nylon and pure silk.

·         Charles braved a journey to Pennysylvania in 1945 to bring back state-of-the-art knitting machines.

·         In the 50s a manicurist was hired at Charnos to stop rough nails damaging the stock in the factory!

·         The first fine denier stockings that had stretch flexibility from Charnos were called Crepe Clouds and the campaign appeared in Vogue and was illustrated by the renowned French artist Rene Gruau.

·         In 1958 Charnos launched their first lingerie range which includes nightwear, slips and knickers.

·         In the 60s new machinery allowed Charnos to knit a stocking in four minutes – half the normal time!

·         Charnos has collaborated with some very famous names including Ossie Clark in the 70s and Bruce Oldfield in the 80s.

·         When Princess Diana attended an event without stockings on in the 80s, she started a new bare legged trend – her trendsetting continued when she wore a pair of the Bruce Oldfield seamed tights with a bow motif on a tour of Australia.

·         Charnos supported Breast Cancer Care throughout the ‘noughties’ with a special collection designed by supermodel Jerry Hall and in 2007 launched National Stockings Day.

Still at the forefront of the hosiery market, Charnos has used its fascinating history to create the  75th collection – check it out now online!

Going dotty for spots

September 29th, 2011

We love a polka dot here at Charnos – and it seems we are not the only ones!

On the Autumn/Winter catwalks Stella McCartney’s models sashayed down the runway in androgynous day-wear, but when it came to evening attire, sexy spots and dots made an appearance with light sheer sections of fabric adorned with spots of all sizes. Meanwhile Marc Jacobs went crazy for the polka dot with spots cropping up on everything from skirts, suits and jackets to hats, bags and tights.

The celebs, of course, weren’t far behind, and recently we’ve spotted (get it?) Cheryl Cole in some Marc Jacobs polka dot wedges teamed with a Sonia Rykiel spotty shift dress, while one of those sexy Stella McCartney dresses was worn by the gorgeous Kate Winslet to a movie premiere last month. And Fearne Cotton has been seen in polka dot so often we’ve lost count.

We’ve got lots of lovely dotty tights at Charnos so no matter your style you can work the polka dot trend into your wardrobe.

·         For a subtle nod to the trend try the Charnos Spot Opaque Tight (RRP £6.00) in black chocolate or grey, which would look great with either casual or smart work-wear.

·         For a fashion-forward choice the Mary & Charnos Sheer Spot Tight (RRP £10.00) in Night Noir, Intense Indigo or Subtle Silver will show your style credentials.

·         Perfect with evening wear, the Brigitte Tight (RRP £18.00)from the Charnos 75th collection is sheer with a mini spot design and for an added touch of luxury, is complete with a Swarovski crystal dotted backseam!

Whether you wear your polka dot tights with something plain for an understated look or you opt for a head-to-toe pattern a-la-Marc-Jacobs – make sure you get the polka dot in your life!

Strictly fashion!

September 23rd, 2011

Here at Charnos HQ we love Autumn: The change in weather means we can start wearing our winter knit tights as well as our fabulous sheers; the shops are full of lovely new autumn clothes that we cannot wait to team with our latest Charnos Hosiery. Most of all we love September as it sees the return of strictly come dancing!

Each year we await the news of who will be shimmying across the dancefloor and this year we’re certainly not disappointed. Here at Charnos we pride ourselves on providing hosiery for women of all shapes and sizes, which is why we love Strictly so much: this year we believe the variety of women contestants to be their greatest yet. From Holly Valance to Edwina Curry, Strictly has provided us with what looks set to be a golden year.

Without a doubt the costume team will surpass themselves again this year. We squealed in delight last year when we saw the flash of a fishnet or the alluring line of a backseam stocking being sashayed across the dancefloor.

With such a variety of women we have decided to give you our ‘Lessons in Legs’ tips for some of the new contestants.

For Holly Valance, with her long and endless ‘flamingo’ shape legs, we suggest she wears fishnets. These tights will only enhance her legs, making them look even more fabulous.

For Anita Dobson, we suggest she wears high sheen nude tights, like the Charnos Sheer Lustre range. These will make her ‘Athlete’ shape legs look streamline and the shine will look dazzling on the dance floor.

We will post more strictly tight tips throughout the series.

Get The Look – Pippa Middleton

June 29th, 2011

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, you’ll all know that the breakout star of The Royal Wedding wasn’t the bride, but her younger sister Pippa. Since then, all eyes have been on her while she’s partied in Madrid, Paris, and back on home turf here in the UK. Dubbed “P-Middy”, Pippa has been a universal hit – men love her derriere, and women look to her fresh and classic style for inspiration. What makes her even more appealing is that she is regularly seen shopping in the same place as the rest of us – the high street!

With her enviable figure that has been whittled into shape by running marathons, Pippa is, understandably, often seen flaunting her flawless legs. But fear not - you don’t need to be an athlete to achieve Pippa’s perfect pins. Her secret is simple, effortless and won’t break the bank: nude tights.

In the past, nude tights have been associated with of women of a certain age, but Pippa proves that’s no longer the case. What a relief – they’re the easiest way to achieve fuss-free, flawless legs! Charnos stockists Tightsplease.co.uk have even reported a 90% increase in sales of nude tights compared to this time last year, proving that it’s not just Pippa who has embraced their benefits.

Cheat your way to sleek, “bare” legs with these innovative designs from Charnos:

Charnos’ Simply Bare range of barely there hosiery includes tights, hold ups, no-toe tights, knee highs and moisturiser tights, available in dark tan, natural tan, sunkissed, tan and nude. The toeless tights are the perfect for wearing with peep-toe shoes, and the moisturising tights are microencapsulated with aloe vera plant extracts to keep your legs hydrated in the summer heat.

Prone to laddering your tights before you’ve even stepped out of the house? These sheer Run Resist tights are made for you! Available as tights, stockings, hold ups, knee highs, and control tights, they come in barely black, black, natural tan and nude.

If you prefer a glossier appearance, try the Sheer Lustre range. Choose from tights or hold ups, in black, barely black, natural tan, or nude.

So ditch the wax strips and fake tan this summer, and let Charnos transform your legs this summer!

Fab festival fashion: Charnos help you pack light…and still have a different outfit every day!

        June 24th, 2011

        FAB FESTIVAL FASHION

Charnos help you pack light – and still have a different outfit every day!

With Glastonbury looking like it’s going to be a washout this weekend, how do you pack enough clothes to make sure you’re prepared for all weather conditions and still leave space for your sleeping bag and toilet paper? The answer: make tights your festival essential.

Denim shorts are an annual festival fashion staple thanks to Kate Moss, but you won’t quite pull off the look if you’re shivering. Make sure you take a pair of Charnos tights to keep your legs warm and make your wellies look more stylish – after all, you can always take them off if the sun decides to make an appearance!

Update the look for 2011 with a cute patterned playsuit teamed with opaques and wellies, or a summery mini dress that can be layered with tights depending on the weather. Taking several pairs of tights with you means that you can wear the same outfit every day and make it look different – plus they won’t take up much room in your bag!

        Our festival favourites:

Charnos 60 denier opaque tight: A classic matt look with a soft and warm feel, using 3D Lycra to give comfort and a superb fit. Colours: black, bottle green, chocolate, navy, red, forest green, aubergine, purple, grey, petrol, berry, teal, fuchsia.

Stay on trend with a pretty floral design on your legs to contrast with the mud. Colours: black, natural tan.

Elongate your legs with these gorgeous stripe net tights, available in black.

Charnos cotton modal opaque tights: Using natural fibres, 35% modal and 35% cotton, this product is luxuriously soft with an incredible handle and warm feel. Containing elastane to give superb comfort and fit. Perfect to keep you cosy on chilly festival evenings. Colours: black, aubergine, chocolate, navy, grey, petrol, purple.

Whichever festival you’re going to, remember – tights will dry much faster than jeans after a monsoon-style downpour!

This year Charnos Hosiery will be celebrating its 75th anniversary in style, and sharing its history in innovative ways - why break the habit of a lifetime? TREASURED THROUGH TIME - Charnos Hosiery celebrates its 75th Year

        February 3rd, 2011

It’s all diamonds at Charnos Hosiery HQ, as 2011 marks the 75th anniversary of the treasured hosiery brand.

Alison Baines, Brand Manager, Charnos Hosiery comments: “2011 is set to be an exciting year! We have been trawling through our archives, and piece-by-piece, have found some real gems.  We want to focus on celebrating our fantastic history; set within changes in fashion and cultural shifts; looking at the differences between then and now.   We fully intend on celebrating with everyone who has made the brand what it is over the years, from staff and customers to the media, and technology advances!”

Founded in 1936 by Charles Henry Noskwith, Charnos has kept the nations’ legs wrapped up in gorgeous hosiery for 75 years.

From day one, Charles insisted on the use of the highest quality materials and the constant development of products and innovations in materials and technologies, to meet the needs of the nation’s women. This ethos has stuck; Charnos has always remained at the forefront of leg wear innovation, comfort and style.

Today Charnos is the nations’ wardrobe staple.  It is a brand that gives an insight into wearable high fashion. Offering inspiration to customers and educating them on the power of their legs, providing a real confidence boost through campaigns such as Lessons in Legs (www.lessonsinlegs.co.uk)

A snapshot of Charnos 75 years shows shifts in technology and materials through the invention of nylons, Lycra and run resist; adapting to fashion with tights becoming the hit of the ‘60s as hemlines shortened; the use of iconic fashion designers such as Bruce Oldfield; and developing ranges to support charities using celebrities with Breast Cancer Care and Jerry Hall.
